Pam Harper’s New Hardwood Floors PDF Print E-mail
Written by Tony Griffy

When Pam Harper decided to replace her carpet in her Signal Mountain home with #1 common red oak she got more than just new hardwood floors.  What she got was a living space that had been totally transformed.

harperexterior Pam’s carpet, while still in good shape, was beginning to look dated so she decided to replace the carpet with a hardwood surface that would be easy to maintain and keep clean.  She also wanted to get back to the original style flooring of the home which is a 1930’s style bungalow.  To achieve this we use 2 1/4” wide oak flooring to match the original flooring which still remains in the front portion of the home.

harp_before_3 The process of replacing the flooring starts with removing the old carpet and tack strips which secure the carpet around the perimeter of the room.  Next the subfloor is checked for areas that may need repair.  Once the subfloor has been inspected a layer of felt paper is laid down to help smooth out the floor.  The felt also provides a moisture barrier form any unconditioned spaces below.

harp_prog_3 The new oak flooring is laid perpendicular to the floor joists and the random length boards are staggered so the joints are no aligned. Once the flooring is laid it is sanded, stained and coated with 3 coats of polyurethane sealant.  This provides a finish that is both beautiful and durable.

Hardwood flooring provides timeless style at an affordable cost.   This grade of oak costs around $4.80 per square foot installed, not included prep work, and will provide more than a lifetime of enjoyment. Contact an artisan today regarding your new flooring project!

Thanksgiving, A Letter To Our Customers PDF Print E-mail
Written by Tony Griffy

As I sit at my desk on the day before Thanksgiving, knowing we have completed all of our current projects and also knowing the outlook for future projects is grim, I cannot help being thankful.

I am thankful for my wife and children.  Karen has been very supportive this past year when business was slow and she has saved me on more than one occasion.  And of course my children keep me going.

I am thankful for my friends.  I am thankful for my business partner, Jonathan Vickery and his wife Tricia, who has put up with me for all of these years. :)

I am thankful for Eric Bischoff who has worked with us from the beginning and has been a valued member of the team.  Barret Griffy, my oldest son, has been with us for over a year now part time while he attends Chattanooga State and has been a great help.

But I cannot let this Thanksgiving go by without thanking our customers who have kept the doors open this year. Many of you answered the call when I sent out the message we needed work.  It was more than coincidence that each week as we ran out of work, another one of you would call and need a small project done.  I hope you don’t mind if I mention your names. (In no particular order)

Charles and Lina Hart, Mr. & Mrs. David Garvey, Rana & Scott Hill, Jeffrey Cross, Debbie Baker, Chris and Anne Portera, Christine and Chris Bertani, Michelle and Raymond Bertani, Lana and Louis Rodela, Joe Whitaker, Jonathan Vickery Jr.,  Amber Thornton, Mr. & Mrs. Eddie Bingham, Jill Ralph, Bavarian Auto, Mandie and Mark Cunningham, and a few customers who I know made a concerted effort to help us when we needed work the most, Nancy and Marc Cromie, Ann Coulter and Tom Trevor, Nell and Luther Carpenter and Pam Harper.  Thank you all.

In 2010 I will be celebrating my 30th year in the construction industry.  Even though 2009 has been the worst year that I can remember for this industry, I have hope that 2010 will be a better year.  I am trying to move our company forward by learning new technology and developing new services for our customers.  I am currently taking a photovoltaic (PV) class at Cleveland State Community College.  This training will help me obtain a national level certification to install solar power systems.  I hope by expanding our services we will be better equipped to meet the changing needs of our customers.

Once again I want to thank you and wish you a very happy holiday season.

Sincerely,

Tony Griffy, President

Written by Tony Griffy

trace We are excited about a new service we now have to offer. This service will compliment our solar power services. We can now perform solar site studies to help determine the feasibility of your new photovoltaic project.

We are using the Solar Pathfinder in conjunction with the Solar Pathfinder Assistant software.  This software imports information gathered at the site and quickly provides an analysis of the projected efficiency of your solar power system.

There are many uses for this service. The Solar Pathfinder can also be used to layout landscaping, green houses and any other use where site orientation and shading is crucial to the success of your project.

Contact us today for a complimentary site analysis. See the video below of the site analysis we performed on The Funky Bungalow.

marianheintza The day started early with picking a booth site for Marian Heintz.  We were happy and proud to be able to sponsor her booth.  She is very talented and I saw many people visiting her to see her pottery and jewelry collections.

nppic4 Alex played the keyboard for the school choir and later ate cotton candy and played the kazoo he bought at the event.

Revisiting Flag Etiquette & The Artisan Challenge PDF Print E-mail
Written by Tony Griffy

solarlight1 We were happy to be involved with the recent replacing of the worn flag at Normal Park Museum Magnet School.  We also want to take this opportunity to revisit flag etiquette and put forth a challenge to other businesses.

flagraising We want to thank Senator Andy Berke who obtained a flag that had been flown over our State Capital. Our Cub Scout Pack 3271 recently held a flag raising ceremony to replace the worn flag. Artisan Construction, LLC donated and installed the solar powered light to keep our flag light so it could be flown at night.

Our challenge is simple.  Each business adopt a school and maintain its flag using proper flag etiquette.  For complete flag etiquette see these  websites.  One is here and the other here.

Please watch the video below.
