Revisiting Flag Etiquette & The Artisan Challenge PDF Print E-mail
Written by Tony Griffy

solarlight1 We were happy to be involved with the recent replacing of the worn flag at Normal Park Museum Magnet School.  We also want to take this opportunity to revisit flag etiquette and put forth a challenge to other businesses.

flagraising We want to thank Senator Andy Berke who obtained a flag that had been flown over our State Capital. Our Cub Scout Pack 3271 recently held a flag raising ceremony to replace the worn flag. Artisan Construction, LLC donated and installed the solar powered light to keep our flag light so it could be flown at night.

Our challenge is simple.  Each business adopt a school and maintain its flag using proper flag etiquette.  For complete flag etiquette see these  websites.  One is here and the other here.

The Artisan Project Judy Condon

I met Judy several years ago.  Our sons know each other and play together so I see her and her husband David Andrews often.   David is a professional photographer and is now on my radar for this project.

I have always been intrigued by Judy and her art and I was happy she agreed to be a part of this project.  I have found some of the most interesting people are those that are not the first to speak and have a quiet way about them.  To a certain extent, they let their work speak for them.  Sculpture1

At first glance, you may think these are your typical sculptures of busts but after you gaze into the ceramic eyes of the person being portrayed you realize what your seeing almost has a life of its own.  The character in each of Judy’s sculptures makes me want to know the story behind each piece.

Some of her pieces bring me to laughter and some to sadness.  She will tell you the pieces I have highlighted are not her best but these are my favorites.  Like my project they are not perfect but they have character and they inspire me.

I may rescue these from her yard tonight!   Don’t worry Judy I’ll leave something there to replace them.  Maybe a gnome or troll?

Solar Power Services PDF Print E-mail
Written by Tony Griffy

We are happy that now we can provide solar power services to our customers. We will work with you to design and install a solar power system that meets your needs and budget. There are several options with regards to solar power systems. Depending on your goals, we can design a system that feeds power directly into the grid or install and off-grid system for stand alone projects.

I like the approach of having a system that both feeds power into the grid and also charges batteries for those times when power loss may be an issue. We can mount solar panels on your roof or install a stand alone system on your property that can include a sun tracking device that takes full advantage of the path of the sun through the sky.

Looking ahead, I think in the future we will need to be more mindful of being self sufficient when it comes to these types of resources. To me, it is not just about "going green", it is also about being prepared and creating sustainable homes.

Please contact me so we can discuss your needs and design a system that will meet your goals and budget.

We also offer rainwater harvesting. See the article here...

Artisan's Commitment To Scouting PDF Print E-mail
Written by Tony Griffy

bear cubs We are proud to help support scouting in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I had the opportunity to become a Bear Den leader this past year for Pack 3271. We meet at Normal Park Museum Magnet School. My son Alex is in my den and we had the best father-son time doing it together. Mom also went to den meetings. I look forward to continuing with Webelos this coming scouting year.

This past year Artisan Construction, LLC provided materials for crafts such as bird houses and tools boxes. My project manager Eric Bischoff, pitched in and we built the tool box kits that we later assembled in our den meeting. Artisan also provided paper and drawing supplies, notebooks and journals for the Bear Cubs. We purchased a US flag and a Cub Scout flag for our Pack and material for our bear cubs to create their own super secret den flag.

In total we provided over $1,200 in materials and labor. We are not boasting but we are proud of our support and want to share it with the community. It has been both a learning experience and a blessing working with these fine young men. I look forward again this coming year to supporting scouting in Chattanooga by providing materials and labor for our up-coming first year Webelos den.
